When talking about the most popular shonen anime of all time, Hunter x Hunter can’t be left out. Since the series was animated by Madhouse in 2011, a total of 148 episodes have been released, watched by fans all over the world.
Unfortunately, it’s been quiet for more than a decade when it comes to the adventures of Gon, Killua, and the rest. Season 6 currently marks the final installment of the series, and it’s no surprise that many fans have already lost hope that a seventh season will ever happen.
But what’s the reason behind the anime’s seemingly endless hiatus? And will there ever be a Season 7 of Hunter x Hunter?
Hunter x Hunter: Will There Be a Season 7?
There has been no official confirmation of a seventh season of Hunter x Hunter. The series has been on hiatus since 2014, and a revival anytime soon seems unlikely.
The core problem with a continuation is that the anime has been without sufficient source material since Season 6. As fans will know, the anime is based on Yoshihiro Togashi’s manga of the same name, but due to ongoing health issues, the mangaka releases new chapters at an extremely slow pace.
The breaks Togashi takes to recover range from several months to several years, which means the story has been crawling forward at a snail’s pace. Many fans have even begun to doubt whether Hunter x Hunter will ever be finished at all.
The anime can only continue once production studio Madhouse has enough material to adapt and that could still be years away. In the meantime, fans are probably better off keeping their expectations in check when it comes to a continuation anytime soon.

How the Story Continues: Succession Contest Arc
If the Hunter x Hunter anime ever continues, it will most likely adapt the Succession Contest Arc. This arc follows the 13th Hunter Chairman Election Arc, which currently marks the end of the anime.
The story shifts its focus away from Gon and moves toward a darker expedition beyond the known world. The so-called Dark Continent is a mysterious land filled with deadly creatures, waiting to wipe out any uninvited intruders. The Succession Contest Arc also promises plenty of battles, tension, and intriguing new characters.
Hunter x Hunter: Where to Pick Up in the Manga
The last place the anime left off was Gon saying goodbye to his best friend Killua before climbing to the top of the World Tree where he finally got the chance to speak with his father Ging. In that sense, Gon has accomplished the goal he set out to achieve as a Hunter.
But the story of Hunter x Hunter doesn’t end there. If you’ve finished the anime and don’t want to wait around for a potential continuation, the manga is the way to go. To pick up right where the anime leaves off, start with Chapter 340, titled “Special Mission”. That’s where the Succession Contest Arc begins.
It’s worth taking a quick look at Chapter 339 first, though, as it provides an in-depth summary of everything that led up to and through the 13th Hunter Chairman Election Arc.
