In The Eminence in Shadow, we follow the young Cid Kagenou, who is reborn in a foreign world after his death. Before long, he puts his newly acquired magical abilities to use and secretly establishes an organization known as Shadow Garden.
The Eminence in Shadow has become one of the most popular isekai series in recent years. Since the anime first launched in October 2022 and has already delivered two seasons, fans have been eagerly waiting for a continuation. But can we actually expect a Season 3?
The Eminence in Shadow: Season 3 Not Yet Confirmed
So far, there has been no official announcement of a third season of The Eminence in Shadow. Neither the animation studio Nexus nor the publisher Enterbrain, which releases the light novel, has provided any information.
However, that doesn’t mean the isekai series is over. Fans still have reason to be excited: In May 2024, it has been confirmed that The Eminence in Shadow will continue with a movie titled “Lost Echoes”.
While an exact release date has not yet been announced, the film is expected to premiere in Japan in 2027. In the meantime, fans can check out the trailer:
The movie is canon and continues the storyline from Season 2. It will cover the “Return to the Earth Arc,” which readers may already know from the light novel. Further details are currently unknown.
Will the Anime Get a Season 3?
For now, fans of The Eminence in Shadow can only speculate about a third season. That said, it’s not unlikely that the anime will continue following the release of the upcoming film, though how that plays out may well depend on the film’s success.
At the very least, animation studio Nexus still has plenty of source material to work with. The Eminence in Shadow is based on the light novel of the same name by Daisuke Aizawa, with Volumes 1 through the first half of Volume 4 already having been adapted.
The second half of Volume 4 is set to play a role in the new film, leaving Volumes 5 and 6 as prime candidates for a potential Season 3.
Possible Release Date for Season 3
Since a third season hasn’t even been announced yet, any information about a release date is purely speculative. First, the movie needs to premiere in Japan.
If the film releases in 2027 without delays, Season 3 could arrive sometime the following year. With a bit of luck, the continuation might even come as early as spring 2028, assuming production is already underway.
As for the episode count, it’s even harder to predict. Season 1 had 20 episodes, while Season 2 was reduced to 12. The length of Season 3 will likely depend on how much source material is adapted, though it probably won’t have fewer than 12 episodes.
What Could Season 3 Be About?
Season 3 would pick up the threads left behind by the previous seasons and the film, carrying the story forward from there. The conflict with the Cult of Diabolos may take on a larger role, and Cid will likely continue to grow in both power and strength. The side characters could also be given more time in the spotlight.
The Eminence in Shadow: Where to Continue in the Light Novel
If you don’t want to wait for an anime continuation of The Eminence in Shadow, you can simply pick up the original light novel. So far, around four and a half volumes have been adapted. To continue where the anime leaves off, you should start at Volume 4, page 148.
While the anime does take some minor liberties compared to the source material, the overall story remains the same, so you should have no trouble following along.
There is also a manga adaptation with 16 volumes released so far. If you prefer visuals over pure text, you can continue from Chapter 48 to pick up right after the anime.
