The God of Highschool was without a doubt one of the most hyped anime of summer 2020. The series quickly gained attention, especially thanks to its top-tier animation and impressive fight scenes.
However, after a first season with 13 episodes, things came to a halt. Since then, there has been little news about The God of Highschool, leaving fans wondering whether a second season of the shonen anime will ever be released.
What Is The God of High School About?
The story of The God of High School is straightforward. At the center of it all is Jin Mori, a boy who boldly declares himself the strongest high school student alive.
When he receives an invitation to the God of High School tournament one day, he doesn’t hesitate for a second. After all, the prize on offer is unlike any other: the winner gets to have any wish granted.
But Jin Mori is far from the only powerhouse student in the competition. Formidable fighters from across Japan descend on the tournament to determine who truly possesses the greatest abilities. What none of them know, however, is that there’s a much deeper mystery lurking behind the scenes.
The God of Highschool: Will there ever be a Season 2?
The first season of The God of Highschool premiered in July 2020. Since then, the production studio MAPPA has not made any statements regarding a second season.
To be honest, the chances of a continuation don’t look very promising. The fact that no Season 2 has been announced even after more than five years suggests that the anime may have been quietly put on hold.
While The God of Highschool is based on a successful South Korean webtoon, that doesn’t automatically guarantee multiple anime seasons. It’s possible that the adaptation simply wasn’t successful enough to justify the time and financial investment for another season.
In addition, the series didn’t receive universal praise from webtoon readers. Many fans criticized the extremely fast pacing, as Studio MAPPA tried to fit over 100 manhwa chapters into just 13 episodes, making the story feel rushed.
After so many years, producing a second season would only make sense if it were financially worthwhile. The question is: how many viewers from the first season would actually return to watch it, buy Blu-rays and support the manhwa enough to make it profitable for MAPPA?
The God of High School: Where to Pick Up in the Webtoon
The God of High School anime is based on the webtoon of the same name by Yongje Park and for those who don’t want to wait around for a potential Season 2, the story of Jin Mori is right there waiting to be continued.
To pick up where the series left off, you actually have two options. If you don’t want to miss a thing, it’s worth starting from Chapter 1. The anime left out a considerable amount of detail from the manhwa or only covered it in a heavily condensed form.
If that doesn’t matter too much to you and you’d rather not revisit scenes you’ve already seen in the anime, Chapter 112 is the place to start. That’s where the story picks up beyond what was covered in Season 1.
The God of High School began in 2011 and concluded in 2022, spanning a total of 569 chapters. All of those chapter are available to read for free in English.
