Fans of Demon King Daimao (Japanese: Ichiban Ushiro no Daimao) have been waiting for years for a continuation. The series, which originally aired in 2010, has become a real hidden gem among fantasy and harem anime fans. With its mix of action, comedy, magic, and a bit of ecchi, it has a unique charm that still fascinates viewers today. But what’s actually going on with Demon King Daimao Season 2? Will there ever be a continuation, or will fans have to live without new episodes forever?
Is a second season of Demon King Daimao possible?
To be honest: the chances aren’t particularly good. The anime is based on the light novel series of the same name by Shōtarō Mizuki, which was published between 2008 and 2014. In total, the series consists of 13 volumes, which means there would actually be enough material to produce one or even two more seasons.
The problem, however, is that the 2010 anime adapted the story quite loosely. Studio Artland, which was responsible for the production back then, took a lot of creative liberties and heavily changed the ending. Because of that, a potential continuation based on the original light novel material became much more difficult.
On top of that, Studio Artland ran into financial trouble in 2017. While it wasn’t completely shut down, most projects were discontinued, and since then there’s been total silence regarding Demon King Daimao. No new projects, no teasers, no rumors – complete radio silence.
But if you know the anime industry, you know that surprises can always happen. Series like Bleach or The Devil is a Part-Timer! (Hataraku Maou-sama!) have shown that even after many years, a continuation can still appear. So if a new studio or producer were to show interest, Demon King Daimao Season 2 would theoretically be quite possible. However, as of now, there’s no official announcement.

When is the release of Demon King Daimao Season 2?
Currently, there is no confirmed information about a second season – and therefore no planned release date. Neither author Shōtarō Mizuki nor the original studio have made any statements about a possible continuation in recent years.
Some fans suspect that a reboot or remake would be more likely than a direct second season. That would mean the story would be retold from the beginning – this time perhaps more faithful to the light novel. This approach isn’t uncommon for older series. A good example is Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, which came out several years after the original and followed the source material more closely.
If such a reboot were to get the green light someday, one would realistically have to expect at least one to two years of production time. So even if an announcement came this year, a possible release would likely not happen before 2027.
Until then, fans can only comfort themselves with the first season. The 12 episodes still offer a solid mix of magic, humor, and chaos. Especially the relationship between Akuto Sai – the aspiring Demon King – and the other characters continues to be entertaining.
Is there a manga?
Yes, and that’s actually the best news for many fans: there isn’t just a light novel, but also a manga adaptation of Demon King Daimao. The manga was also written by Shōtarō Mizuki and illustrated by Souichi Itō. It started in 2008 in the Champion Red magazine and ran until 2014.
The manga follows the story of the light novel a bit more closely than the anime, which makes it the best option for many fans who want to know how the story really continues. It includes much more character development and several story arcs that don’t appear in the anime at all.
For anyone who doesn’t want to wait for a second season, it’s definitely worth checking out the manga or the light novel. Both tell the story of Akuto Sai in much greater detail – with more action, more drama, and of course more background about his role as the “future Demon King”.

Demon King Daimao: Probably no Season 2
Even though many fans are still hoping that Demon King Daimao Season 2 will appear one day, there are currently no official hints pointing in that direction. The series is now over 15 years old, and the production studio is no longer active. Still, there’s hope – especially because there’s enough material and a loyal fanbase that would definitely support a continuation.
Until then, the only thing fans can do is rewatch the old episodes or dive into the books and manga to learn more about Akuto and his magical world. Who knows – maybe the anime world will surprise us someday with a comeback. But for now, it seems we’ll just have to be patient and hope that the Demon King rises once again.
