“Haikyuu!!” is one of the absolute favorite series for many anime fans in the sports genre. The story about Hinata, Kageyama, and Karasuno High’s volleyball team has captivated fans around the world for years. When the fourth season ended in 2020, many viewers were stunned – the final episode left a huge cliffhanger that made fans hope for a fifth season. But is Haikyuu Season!! 5 really possible? Or is the show officially finished?

In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the current situation based on official announcements, industry insights, and fan reactions online.

No Season 5: The Anime is Finished

The short answer is: no, a classic fifth season of “Haikyuu!!” has not been officially announced, and it seems unlikely it will happen in that form. The production team has already clarified that the anime will not continue as a series after the fourth season. Instead, they are focusing on two anime films to tell the remaining story and provide a proper conclusion to the anime.

According to official announcements, these two final films will adapt the parts of the manga that haven’t been animated yet, rather than creating another regular season.

The first of these films, “Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle”, has already been released and covers the highly anticipated match between Karasuno and Nekoma, which was originally expected to be a big focus for a potential season 5.

Why this decision? There are several reasons mentioned by media and fan discussions:

    • Higher production and quality standards: Movies often allow for better animation and more budget per minute than a TV season.
    • Business reasons: Movies can be more financially attractive for studios than an entire TV season.
    • Story structure: The final parts of the “Haikyuu!!” manga work well for a cinematic conclusion.

All of this means that the anime adaptation officially ends with these films. There is no confirmed Season 5 in the traditional format.

Of course, this leaves fans with mixed feelings. Many are disappointed because they were hoping for another season with the usual episode rhythm. Others are excited about the films and hope they do justice to the manga’s story.

    What About the Manga?

When talking about a possible fifth season, it’s worth looking at the manga by Haruichi Furudate. The manga officially ended in July 2020 after chapter 402 and consists of 45 volumes.

The fourth season of the anime only covered roughly up to chapter 292, which means there’s still a lot of story material left in the manga – more than 100 chapters that haven’t been animated.

This fact kept many fans hopeful for a long time, thinking there could be at least a fifth (or even sixth) season to adapt the remaining story arcs, including:

    • Karasuno vs. Nekoma (Battle at the Garbage Dump)
    • Spring Nationals Arc
    • Possible time skips and character development

That’s why the decision to tell the story through movies instead of seasons seems surprising to some fans. There is clearly enough material for multiple TV seasons.

Still, the studio consciously chose this approach to adapt the manga finale cinematically. And even though the title “FINAL” has sometimes been removed in descriptions, this doesn’t necessarily indicate a Season 5 – it just means the conclusion is presented in a flexible way.

Fans and Speculation: Hope or Wishful Thinking?

Of course, the community hasn’t completely given up hope. Many fan forums and discussion groups continue to speculate about a potential Season 5. Some common points mentioned are:

    • The popularity of “Haikyuu!!” is huge – series with such a large fanbase often get additional seasons or spin-offs.
    • The manga still has enough content for more than just two films – many fans think there’s still enough material for a season.
    • Some hope for OVA episodes or specials, if a full season doesn’t happen.

On the other hand, many fans also point out that until the studio and producers officially announce anything, it’s all just speculation.

The truth is: without an official confirmation – no announcement or release date – Season 5 remains wishful thinking. But this could always change with new projects or anniversary announcements.

    What Are the Chances Really?

The chances of a classic “Haikyuu Season 5” are very low, because the studio is instead concluding the story with two final anime films.

    This means:

    • No official Season 5 is currently in production.
    • The remaining manga story will be adapted through films.
    • A return in series format is currently pure speculation.

Still, the manga has enough content to keep fans talking and hoping the series will come back someday – whether as OVAs, spin-offs, or even a kind of Season 5 in a new form. But until an official announcement is made, it remains a dream for many anime fans.

For now, fans can stay updated, follow news, and enjoy the films, because “Haikyuu!!” still has a lot to tell – just not in the traditional season format.
